A word of encouragement: "Give us this day..."

Updated: May 30, 2022

A word of encouragement for those of us who are overthinkers, worriers, and/or deal with frequent anxiety:

In the Lord’s Prayer, one of the lines in the prayer is: “Give us this day our daily bread.” To me, this means that God wants us to focus on things one moment and one day at a time. We get anxious, become overwhelmed or flustered, and begin to worry when we try to get ahead of God and try to speed up the present in order to get to the future…OR…when we don’t know what the future will bring and we begin to assume (and overanalyze and overthink), do things out of His will for our lives, or try to help God out with our problems.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: What future things are you thinking about today that are causing you to overthink, worry, or be anxious? Even when you don’t know what the future will bring, God knows: “God knows the plans He has for you. He has plans to prosper you and to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Sit with God in prayer and spend time in His word. Focus on God and leave the concerns of both today and tomorrow at God’s feet. Don’t worry about your future. God will reveal to you what needs to be revealed when the time is right. Trust Him to get you to where you need to be and to perfect all of His plans concerning you and your life…in His timing.
